Who
knows? Maybe that huge or unusual tree that you walk or drive by each day has
what it takes to be a champion!
By
identifying, documenting and recognizing the largest and rarest trees of various
species in our neighborhoods, we hope to encourage people to see our spectacular
trees in a new light.
Program
Goals
-
Bring
public awareness to valuable and irreplaceable trees
-
Increase
the owner's awareness of the tree's unique importance and encourage continued
stewardship
-
Protect
recognized trees from indiscriminate topping, removal or irreparable damage during
development and urbanization
-
Stimulate
awareness of the diversity, sensitivity and importance of the urban tree canopy
Annual
winners are recognized during the spring Arbor Day Celebration and entered into
the Statesville Record of Champion Trees.
